Why are we updating the General Plan?
As we look to the future, our changing population and changing environment are calling for a new roadmap toward an economically prosperous and sustainable Los Angeles.
As we grow from just over 4 million people today to 4.6 million by 2040, we have the opportunity to plan and design a city that will noticeably improve the quality of life for all residents and deliver reliable and high quality basic services and amenities.
OurLA2040 aims to chart the course for how our city will grow and change over time and will cover topics such as land use and economic development, water and energy conservation, parks and open space, air quality, historic preservation, public facilities and community assets.
See the background page for more information on the City's current General Plan.
